Roof Remediation
Location: Arviat and Sanirajak, NU
Construction Type: Government/Institutional
Client: Nunavut Housing Corporation
Completion Date: 2023
Contract Value: $3.0 million

Project Overview
Nunattiaq completed roof remediation work on four Nunavut Housing Corporation 4-plex buildings located in Arviat and Sanirajak. The project involved removing the existing roofing systems, conducting mould abatement, replacing all damaged materials, and installing new roofing with improved venting details designed to prevent future moisture-related issues.
In addition to exterior work, interior renovations were completed to address areas impacted by water damage. A key aspect of this project was maintaining safe, livable conditions, as all units remained occupied throughout construction.
Project Execution
Delivering this project required detailed planning, coordination, and careful execution within active residential environments. Materials were staged and marine-crated in advance to align with sealift schedules, ensuring all required components arrived on site within the limited shipping window.
Pre-construction planning focused on material accuracy and sequencing, reducing the risk of delays once work began. During construction, the team maintained strict control over temperature and humidity levels within the units to protect interior conditions and ensure the effectiveness of remediation work.
Ongoing communication with residents was a critical part of the process. Work was carefully coordinated to minimize disruption while maintaining safety and comfort for occupants. Despite a short seasonal construction window, the project was completed efficiently through strong site management and clear coordination across all phases.
